BASF (PI Dr. Andreas Hafner), a world leading chemical company and a major wood resin provider, work on various sustainable polymer systems for the impregnation of the cellulose scaffolds, that allow multiple use of the composites at the end of service time. Important challenges to be tackled are related to the compatibility of the components, the hardening processes, the moisture resistance and the resulting mechanical properties. Different resin systems are studied to produce high-performance fibre composites targeting specifically automotive and furniture applications.
